Published on the occasion of the exhibition at MAXXI L'Aquila, this guide explores the artistic production of Ai Weiwei, one of the most influential contemporary artists in the world, starting from the works displayed at the museum's L'Aquila venue. It's a journey through his entire career, encompassing installations, videos, photographs, and sculptures capable of questioning the present and stirring consciences. Also inspired by his recent visit to L'Aquila and the visible signs of the earthquake in the city, the artist transforms art history icons, from Munch to Van Gogh, into surprising works created with colorful bricks, combining play and protest. This intense visual experience invites reflection on responsibility, crisis, and humanity in our time. Alongside the iconographic apparatus, the volume includes contributions from exhibition curator Tim Marlow and a text by Francesco Stocchi, MAXXI's Artistic Director.
