Creatures, Creators. Saint Francis and Contemporary Art

Published on the occasion of the exhibition at MAXXI created for the eighth centenary of Saint Francis's death, the volume fosters a dialogue between contemporary creativity, nature, ethics, and spirituality through works from the museum's collection and new, previously unseen commissions. The catalogue focuses not only on the iconic figure of the saint, but also on his view of the world and the universal message of the Canticle of the Creatures. Artists of different generations reinterpret themes such as the relationship with the environment, fragility, care, and coexistence among living beings. The volume includes critical essays, descriptive entries for the works on display, and a dedicated bibliography, a journey rich in suggestions, images, and reflections that offers new ways of interpreting the contemporary.
