The exhibition Ambient 1956-2010. Environments by Women Artists II presents unprecedented research into the often overlooked contributions of women in the history and creation of immersive environments. This exhibition catalogue marks an extensive investigation into this field, challenging the conventional narratives that have largely em phasized male artists from the United States and Europe.

The catalogue offers a journey through the works of eighteen women artists, spanning continents and generations: Micol Assadl, Monica Bonvicini, Judy Chicago, Lygia Clark, Laura Grisi, Zaha Hadid, Alexsandra Kasuba. Kimsooja, Chri Lea Lublin, Nalini Malani, Marta: Minuin, Tania Mouraud, Pipilotti Rist, Martha Rosler, Esther Stocker, Nanda Vigo, and Tsuruko Yamazaki. Their innovative approaches to transforming spaces into multisensory experiences are brought to light through detailed reconstructions, replicas and site specific installations.

The publication provides a wider and contextual framework for the artists and their works. It includes a comprehensive chronology of the history of environments, allowing readers to navigate through the evolution of the concept of environ. mores, as well as a large bibliography.
