Più grande di me. Voci eroiche dalla ex Jugoslavia

Published in conjunction with the exhibition at MAXXI, the book is divided into two sections. In the first, along with texts by the curators, seven authors explore from various perspectives the concept of heroism and the relation between the individual and society within the context of the Balkans. The in-depth historical, anthropological and literary studies presented offer some fundamental tools for approaching the study of this country. In the second part of the book, a photographic section is devoted to the works in the show, more than one-hundred pieces divided into eight thematic sections that document the various themes dealt with here: democratic freedom, gender equality, brotherhood, hope, the risk posed by processes of automatization caused by the consumer society, the limited nature of the decision processes of individuals, acceptance of the other, and metamorphoses, understood as consequences of man’s exploitation of nature.
