Sebastião Salgado. Amazônia

Published in conjunction with the show Sebastião Salgado. Amazônia and presented for the first time in Italy at MAXXI, this guide documents Salgado’s exploration of Brazilian Amazonia in more than seven years of activity. The forest, rivers, mountains, and indigenous communities are presented in the volume by a careful selection of the most iconic images among the more than two-hundred shown in the exhibition. The result is an invitation to immerse oneself in the universe of Amazonia, reflecting on the fragility of its ecosystem, “a witness to what remains before it can disappear. So that life and nature may be spared any more episodes of destruction.” Accompanying the images are written contributions by the exhibition curator Lélia Wanick Salgado and by Salgado himself.
